How to be a People-Keeper
"10 No-Cost / Low-Cost Retention Strategies"
1. Promote from within.
2. Open up lines of communicaiton.
This sounds easier that it is.
3. When travel opportunities arise, give them to those who like
to travel.
4. After a tough project, give team members time off.
5. Have fun.
Host a pizza party, or give tickets to a local amusement park to
employees and their families.
6. Provide flexible work schedules.
7. Reward individual and group performance with an
article in the company newsletter, an award ceremony
at the monthly employee meeting, or a notice on the
bulletin board.
8. Don't be petty.
Silly, close-minded rules and regulations produce nothing but anger and frustration. Lighten up. 9. Don't micromanage.
If your people really cannot be trusted to supervise their own work
and that of their colleagues, you need new employees, not more
control.
10. Assign coaches or mentors who help employees not just on specific
jobs, but also in developing their careers.
