Business Outlook - Employment

From September 7 -- "Looking ahead, demand for labor appears
quite robust.  A survey by the temporary help agency Manpower
Inc. shows that hiring plans for the fourth quarter are the
strongest since 1977."

From September 14 -- "The Engine Is Slowed - But Not Stalled"
is the headline.  The analysis first touches on the substantial
drop in the Dow Jones industrial average, then comments on the
new round of market mayhem involving Russia and Asia, and
then the third, and most important sector of the U.S. economy
that is already in recession is profits.  "The main squeeze on
earnings  is from higher labor costs that are outstripping
companies' ability to raise prices, and that pressure will not let
up any time soon."
