         BRAIN DRAIN
( Detecting The Warning Signs )

"K-Worker at Risk:

Personal reputation in industry; rich in client contacts;
technologically savvy; ability to forecast markets and
trends; ability to change rules; deal-maker inside and
outside organization; demonstrated "personal branding"
capabilities."

"Company At Risk:

Inability to integrate subsidiary management; no
access/knowledge of client contacts; lack of company-
wide controls/rules/culture; no programs to ensure
worker loyalty to parent organization; one-time "secret"
deals (not transparent throughout organization) that
provide managers/subsidiaries autonomy without
support, incentives, disincentives."

"KNOWLEDGE-ENABLED COMPANY:

Company-wide management, personnel, data and
documents are integrated on some level; intelligent
document management in place for unstructured and
structured data; top management has access to
subsidiary client contact lists and deal information
at all times (data/info dumps into central repository
every business day); incentives for management and
worker loyalty are transparent throughout organiza-
tion; communication systems and technologies facilitate
cross-cultural collaboration and support; K-worker
knowledge "bundled" into management and IT
processes through expert profiling."
