Managing Knowledge

for Business's Sake

This is an excellent article about knowledge in
your organization.

CAPITALIZING ON COMPANY KNOWLEDGE

o  Does your organization understand what
knowledge is critical to its success ?

o  Does it identify individuals and groups with relevant
knowledge and make their knowledge visible to the
    rest of the organization ?

o  Does it understand and exploit the relevant knowledge
used by high-performing groups and individuals ?

o  Does it identify, share and apply lessons learned from
    major corporate efforts ?

o  Does it use its knowledge of customers and suppliers
to improve its products and services ?

o  Does it collect, organize and disseminate important
forms of explicit knowledge ( for example, knowledge
    contained in documents or e-mails ) ?

o  Does it enable face-to-face conversations and other
types of interaction necessary to transfer tacit
    knowledge ( an individual's knowledge that's not
    easily documented ) ?

o  Does it allocate money, time and space to enable
individuals to create, share and access knowledge ?

o  Does your organization actively promote an
environment that builds trust among individuals ?

o  Do senior managers publicly promote the importance
of knowledge creation, sharing and use ?  Are
individuals and groups measured and rewarded for
creating, sharing and using knowledge ?
