Workforce Special Issue

HR That Really Works

T
he latest issue of Workforce features lots of stories
concerning HR and the workplace.  There are too
many
interesting tidbits to share in this brief overview,
but we will give you an idea here of what to expect
when you pick up this Special Issue and see just a
few of the headlines.

More and more companies are adhering to the approach
of "treating people like adults."  One such software
company is making the quality of life better for their
employees with an on-site daycare that holds 700 kids.
Their benefits include "free access to a 36,000 square-foot
gym, a putting green, sky-lit meditation rooms, and the
services of a full-time in-house elder-care consultant."

A company which markets nutritious fast food such as
smoothies and juice drinks has hiring and retention
strategies which are both ambitious and fun.  Fun is a
vital part of the
company's values, which further include
integrity and respect.
  Screening is of the utmost
importance to them, as recruiting goes on 24 hours a day,
7 days a week.

One company has a "graceful leaving policy" which raises
terminations to a new level.  Employees feel comfortable
with giving up to six months notice before leaving for a new
job.  "For us, it's all about the relationship," states their
HR Director.

A major electronics company has paved the way for
offering online training courses to its employees.  With a
competitive advantage
stemming from continual education,
this company also provides opportunities to obtain several
degrees at various universities.  Each employee is offered
an annual education allowance of $5,200.00, as an added
incentive to learn.

There are many other articles in this issue that touch on
subjects such as internet recruiting, web-based customer
service, other workplace changes and cultural changes.
