How do I know where to check the Criminal Conviction History of
a person ?
The first thing to do is always have the applicant complete
their history from their memory, including their places of
residence for the last 7 years, on your job application. Then,
do a good job interviewing, and check where you have reason to
wonder about what you have heard. Some companies check an
applicant's prior residence locations, some check prior job
locations, and some check the locations where they went to
school.
An alternative is to request an ID Verification from us,
which is the header from their national credit file, and
it will likely, but not always, list their past residence
addresses and their past employers in reverse chronological
order. You will have discovered a serious problem if that
list does not match the list that they gave you on their Job
Application. And, you will have verified the list of
locations that you may want to check.
Finally, remember that people are funny about any trouble
that they may have ever gotten into. They will often recall
an assault as a bad check. You need to check whatever they
tell you. In fact, be sure to ask if they have ever done
anything that would be a crime if anyone had known about
it. You will be amazed at the admissions that you get.
They will even tell you where to check.
